Over the years, I have heard many musicians complain about what they have or what they don’t have, either when we are recording or even during rehearsal. Complaints vary from something wrong with a part of the equipment or cannot hear good in the rehearsal room as it is not fully treated or the cymbals are not the kind they want, etc.
One thing I learned long ago is that on the road, you don’t always get what you want. Yes we send a rider but not everything goes to plan. This holds true in life as well as in the music business.
I didn’t grow with privilege and I didn’t have money to buy or do things I wanted to do. We had to use what we had and make something from nothing or just do without.
I have actually chosen to rehearse in the worst of conditions so that when my band and I are on the road, if the system is the worst, we will be ready and if it is the best, we will still be ready and sound and look great!
You have to learn not to complain. Work with what you have and be great when you have not so that when you Do have, you will be even Greater!
